Home Sweet Home
Posted: 5th December 2011
Hi everyone, since my last blog lots of things have been happening, unfortunately on the golf course very little has been happening!
Having approached the home strait to the season in an optimistic and fresh frame of mind I seemed to not recover the reins which I had dropped during my time off. My performances in the last few months haven't lived up to expectations, however, things aren't that far away and I'm already looking forward to next season.
There were a few highlights in some of the recent events with a best of the day score of 69 at Valderrama in round two, however, the first round contained two three putts, a four putt and a five putt! I was heading for a decent finish in the tournament until the penultimate hole when my third shot landed on the green and spun back into the water. Having done this twice more, I finally managed to hit the green and two putt for an eleven. Not my finest hour but a few drinks were needed on the plane on the way home to help soften the blow.
I have recently returned from a trip to South Africa where I saw plenty of wildlife, unfortunately a little too much whilst I was actually playing! Before the tournament started up at Leopard Creek I was sitting minding my own business (which is very unusual) in the clubhouse when I noticed a pain in my foot - on further investigation it appeared that something that bitten me. So, following a trip to see the Dr it transpired that a spider had found my smelly foot rather attractive and had a nibble! I was given some cream and pills and recovered quickly - however I doubt the spider is still with us!
Finishing 74th in the Race to Dubai wasn't what I hoped for coming into the end of the year, however, it is a platform that I hope to build on next year.
Another positive in recent months has been the appointment of a new caddie, namely Darren Reynolds, who for many years caddied for Paul McGinley. I feel that we will have a great working relationship as we both seem to be very much on the same wavelength (which is worrying for him!).
Off course things have been really busy with my wife and I moving into our new house, which is still being tweaked, but it's now great to have a place to call home again. I've been busy unpacking boxes and re-discovering things that I'd forgotten existed! The house is all that we dreamed it would be and is amazing to see that a sketch on a piece of paper has now become the finished article.
I'm now looking forward to getting things ship shape at home so that my thoughts next year can be fully focused on my golf. I'll be heading off to South Africa on 1st January following Christmas at home with family and friends.
I'd just like to wish everyone a great Christmas and prosperous and healthy New Year and thanks for your support and encouragement in 2011.
Cheers, Finchy.
